Robert Cavanaugh

March 31, 1938 — February 9, 2018

Robert Edwin Cavanaugh age 79, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, February 9, 2018 in Gatesville. The Celebration of Robert’s life will be held at the First UMC in Gatesville on March 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow.

Robert was born on March 31, 1938 in Plainview, Texas. Robert attended school in Plainview for many years and considered that his home. It was in Plainview where Robert met the only girl he ever loved, Molly Harris. With her love and support, Robert graduated from Dallas Baptist College and received his master’s degree from Perkins School of Theology at SMU.

Robert was an auto mechanic in his early years and later surrendered to preach around 1965 and later became a Methodist minister in 1972. He served many different churches from 1972-2001 including Whites Chapel in Southlake, First UMC Round Rock and First UMC Hamilton. After retiring in 2001, Robert came back and served the First UMC in Evant, Texas for several years where many new friends enhanced his life. Robert was also a Mason for over 30 years.

Robert and Molly liked to travel in their R.V. to Colorado and New Mexico. Consequently, he and Molly, were park attendants in New Mexico for several years. In his leisure time, Robert liked to watch westerns with his favorite being Lonesome Dove. After losing the love of his life, Molly, Robert turned his affections to his beloved brown schnauzer Sadie Mae Cavanaugh. He loved animals and had many dogs, especially schnauzers, in his lifetime.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Molly Cavanaugh; his son, Rob Cavanaugh, Jr.; his parents, A. L. & Myrtle Cavanaugh; brother, HD Cavanaugh and sister, Vada McWilliams.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Connie & husband, Michael Neal of Euless, Texas, C. Karen Cavanaugh and husband, David Richards of San Antonio, TX, Molly Bob Hebert and husband, Michael of Beaumont, TX. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of his friends and extended family for the support and prayers during his final days.
