Sammy Lewis Slagle born in Commerce, TX, on July 25, 1931, passed from this life into eternity in Phoenix, AZ on January 25, 2016. A celebration of Sammy Lewis Slagle's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Allemande Hall, Speegleville, TX with Bill Patterson, a dear friend of Sam and Kathleen, officiating.
Sammy grew up in Amarillo, TX and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business at West Texas A&M University. He spent two years in the Army from 1951-1953. In 1955, he married his first love, Frances Roberta Paul. They had two sons, Terry Lee Slagle and Kenney Slagle.
After retiring from the railroad, Sam and Frances purchased a business they named "Fran's Sweeping". They kept three trucks cleaning up the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for many years. While Frances and two other drivers did the sweeping, Sam kept the trucks up and running by doing all the mechanical repairs himself.
Sam had a variety of interest, including flying his Cessna, talking on his CB radio, square dancing and photography. Sam's first love was his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert and Frances Slagle; wife, Frances Paul Slagle; brother, William Lee Slagle and grandson, Christopher Lee "Cowboy" Slagle.
Survivor's include son, Terry Lee Slagle, great-granddaughter Jacelynn Elizabeth Slagle, granddaughter, Heather Slagle Mayes and husband David and their tow children Heidi Grace Mayes and Christopher Lee Mayes. Son, Kenney Slagle and with Pam, and their daughter Abbigail Slagle. Sam's very loving second wife and best friend, Kathleen Haley Slagle, her five children and nine grandchildren.
