Sandra Kay Appleby, 74, of Clifton passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 15, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Clifton with Rev. Mary Gean Cope officiating. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sandra was born December 26, 1942, in Clifton, the younger daughter of Kent and Mildred (Hill) Appleby.
She was a graduate of Clifton High School and South West Texas State University in San Marcos. Her job experience included being a waitress, elementary school teacher, employee of Trinity Lutheran Learning Center and library aide at the Nellie Pederson Civic Library.
As a life long Methodist she served her church in various capacities. She was a member of the administrative council, missions committee, United Methodist Women, Open Door Sunday School Class, chancel choir, and church prayer chain. She assisted teaching a young children’s Sunday school class and served as nursery attendant. She also participated in the Disciple Bible Study series.
An outgrowth of her membership in United Methodist Women was her attendance many times at the School of Christian Mission, where she made many close friends throughout the Central Texas Conference. Early May of 1990, she was a participant at the United Methodist Women’s Assembly in Kansas City, Missouri, a gathering of women from all fifty states.
Her walk to Emmaus in September of 1998, was a spiritually life changing experience for her. She became a part of Bosque Glory Bound Emmaus Community, serving as lay director, and regularly attending monthly gatherings.
Yearly Thanksgiving visits to her family members in Houston brought great joy to her life. She was always proud of all their accomplishments.
Sandra is survived by her sister, Hazel Judith (Judy) Appleby Baker of Houston; nephew, John David Baker of Houston; niece, Kay Jeannene Baker Henderson and husband, Sherrod of Irving; niece, Jacquelyn Nan Baker Hamilton and husband, Tad of Cypress, and niece, Jill Roxanne Baker Murrell of Houston; great nephews and nieces, Gary Michael Pomerenke, Tamika Dawn Henderson, Artiss Sherrod Henderson, Andre Allen Henderson, Jewel Abigail Henderson, Christian Taylor Hamilton Donnell, Charity Caroline Hamilton, Chandler Grace Hamilton, Maeghan Nichole Murrell, and Zoe Alexandria Murrell; great-great nieces and nephew, Abigail Edith Henderson, Brayden Lynn Donnell, Kinsley Roxanne Murrell; and, many cousins and friends.
