Sandra Parker Smith, 69, of Clifton TX, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Goodall Witcher Hospital, after a hard-fought battle with liver cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church.
Sandra was born August 4, 1948, in Dallas TX, to Edwin and Ila Miller. She was a 1966 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She married Fred Parker just after high school and in 1968, and they had a son, David.
In 1984, she married Gilbert Smith and they had a wonderful life together. One of their biggest accomplishments together was starting a small business - Smith Home Repair. As the office manager, Sandra was very involved and had the last say on every job.
The two traveled frequently to many places in the United States including Hawaii, Alaska, California, Washington DC, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma as well as outside the US like Mexico, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Grand Cayman, and Guatemala. They loved taking cruises.
About 15 years ago, they moved to the Whitney area and settled in Clifton. They bought a fixer-upper and were able to use their home repair skills to make many improvements including an addition.
In 2015, Gilbert began battling dementia. As his disease worsened, he was moved to the Clifton Nursing Home in 2016. As Gilbert continued to deteriorate, it was very hard on Sandra. She visited him quite often and built relationships with the staff, other patients, and their spouses to lift her spirits.
On March 2, 2018, after a long fight with his disease, Gilbert passed. The same week, Sandra Parker Smith was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer. She is survived by her son, David Parker; her stepdaughter, Sarah Smith; her sisters, Joni Cooper, Debbie Gilmore, Beckie Coker, Ellen Sellers, and Daisy Hanna; her brother, Maurice Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
