Shelby Jyern Anderson

February 10, 1934 — March 30, 2017

Shelby Jyern Anderson, 83, of Clifton passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Clifton Funeral home.

Shelby was born on February 10, 1934 in Meridian to George Anderson and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Evans Dyer Anderson. He grew up in the Meridian, Clifton, and Cranfills Gap area and attended schools in all three communities. After graduation from Clifton High School in 1951, he entered the United States Air Force.

During the Korean War, he saw combat duty as a crew chief on a B-36 bomber. On September 21, 1956, he married Mary Ruth Ward. He left the Air Force in 1960 and moved to Clifton where he has made a home for the past 57 years. The couple had one child, Marilyn, born to this marriage. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Wilson Manufacturing, General Dynamics and Wall’s Manufacturing where he retired in 1996. He served as the head of maintenance and was a sewing machine mechanic.

Shelby was actively involved in the American Legion and all of their activities, serving in various offices including Commander. He loved his daughter, grand-daughter and great-grandchildren dearly. A kind and caring gentleman, he was always available to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. He enjoyed working with his hands and working in the outdoors. He was especially meticulous in caring for his yard.
All of his life, Shelby enjoyed fishing and hunting. To family members, he was affectionately known as “Pop” or “Papa”. Preceding him in death were his father and mother, George and “Lizzie” Anderson, his sister, Georgia Gustafson, and half-brother Clifford Dyer, Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Ruth Anderson, of Clifton; daughter, Marilyn Pippin, of Clifton; grand-daughter, Amber Heintz, and husband, Casey, of Valley Mills; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Branson Heintz, both of Valley Mills and a host of family and friends.
