Shirley Ann Amundson grew up having lived on several farms in the Norse community west of Clifton.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, baptized in infancy, attended Sunday school, and was confirmed in May 1964. She helped with Smorgasbord and in later years was a member of the Archives committee.
She graduated from Clifton High School in May 1967.
Shirley married Kenton Dwain Bronstad at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton on August 12, 1967. They lived in Dallas and Irving. Two children were born to the union, son Kevin Dwain in 1970 and daughter Kelly Denise in 1973. Shirley babysat children in her home while caring for her own.

For several years in the 1980’s they owned and operated (with brother Bobby Amundson) a restaurant named “The Heritage House” on Highway 6 in Clifton.
Later Shirley provided childcare for many, many children in her home- babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, and after school care for older children. She answered to several names, Miss Shirley, Grandma, and Mimi. For a few years, enrollment was so large, Shirley had two locations for her childcare business.
Shirley was a proud Norwegian and loved her family. Holidays were important to her and she was a good cook. She delighted in watching her grandchildren play sports and attending dance recitals. She enjoyed reading, playing “42” dominoes, cards and board games, scrapbooking and word search books.
