Shirley Ann Mcpherson

Services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Clifton for Shirley McPherson on Saturday, May 2nd at 2 P.M. Dr. Jerry Smith will be leading in the service with Clifton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. at the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at Clifton Memorial Park.
Shirley Barker was born on July 16, 1935 in Dallas, Texas. She was an only child born to Cecil and Travis "Honey" Barker. She grew up primarily in the Waco area and attended Waco schools. She graduated from Waco High School . She met L.E. Mac McPherson, a young Air Force flyboy, while he was stationed in San Antonio. A courtship followed, and they were married on April 7, 1953 at Calvary Baptist Church in Waco. This occurred prior to her graduation from High School. The young couple moved numerous times in their lifetime due to Mac's work as computer data analyst. The couple made their homes in Arizona, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Washington State. Two sons were born to their marriage Gary and Bruce. Mac worked for various aerospace companies, Hillcrest Hospital and TSTI. Shirley was there all along the way encouraging him and making the necessary adjustments to all the moves. She also worked as a banking secretary off and on.
After their retirement, they moved to Clifton to make it their home. Shirley loved raising all kinds of flowers. She enjoyed serving the First Baptist Church through a ministry preparing the sanctuary for worship. She also helped out in our church office at times with secretarial duties, and visited homebound people. She was active in her Adult Sunday School Class, and enjoyed many class activities. She loved to travel, and go seemed to be her middle name. She had a high energy, and was always busy. She will be remembered for her laughter, straightforward manner, and caring spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years L.E. "Mac" McPherson. She is survived by her two sons: Gary McPherson and wife Cynthia of Stephenville, and Bruce McPherson and wife Lori of Conroe. By her grandchildren Caleb McPherson and wife Lauren of Alabama, Dana and husband Nate Noel of Kentucky, Abbagail and husband Harold Newhouse IV of Conroe , Micaiah and husband Chris Mann of Waxahachie, great-grandchildren Lachlynn Noel , Ewan McPherson. She is also survived by her special friend Emil Schwartz and her Dairy Queen friends.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to First Baptist Church or Lutheran Sunset Hospice.
