Sophia Erna Bernhardt

Sophia Erna Howard Bernhardt of Clifton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 9, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Joe Ardy officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Clifton Memorial Park Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on the Clifton Funeral Home Facebook page.

Sophia was born on May 16, 1925 to Emil and Sophie Herzog of Fedor, TX. She attended Meridian School. On October 3, 1942, she married Ernie A. Howard, who was killed in WWII. On November 6, 1948, she married Calvert C. Bernhardt.

She worked at a cafe in Meridian and the Clifton Steam Laundry. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, camping, her grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; five brothers; and six sisters.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Howard and wife, Shelia of Hewitt; daughters, Gayle Bryant and husband, Jim of Clifton; Dianne Bernhardt of Meridian; eight grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janice Herzog, and lifetime friend, Regina Fehler.
