Stanley Thomas Wilcox was taken from this earth on December 23, 2022 in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Clifton at 303 S. Ave. E, Clifton, TX 76634. Burial will follow at Clifton Memorial Park.
Stanley "Stan" Thomas Wilcox, the eldest child of Thomas and LaVern Lumpkin Wilcox, was born in El Paso, Texas on May 2, 1963. He attended Clifton schools and graduated from Clifton High School, where he was active in many organizations, including the varsity football team, choir, theater, and student leadership. Stan always loved to make people laugh and was voted "most fun to be around" by his classmates.
After high school, Stan attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico, where he was commissioned Army Second Lieutenant upon graduation. He served for several years in the Army National Guard in Illinois. Quite the entrepreneur, Stan built and sold several companies over the years before eventually moving back to Texas, where he bought a house and settled down in Waco. When he wasn't working, Stan could be found most days at the local YMCA playing a game of racquetball. He was known as a fun, kind and compassionate son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Stan passed away tragically on December 23, 2022 at the age of 59 years. Although he was taken too soon, he will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
Stan was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Henry Wilcox and his nephew, Adam Selman. He is survived by his mother, LaVern Wilcox of North Richland Hills; sister Renee Davis and husband David of Grapevine; sister Robyn Garrett and husband Scott of Keller; nephews Brandon and Chad Selman and Henry Garrett; nieces Zoe Baucom and Brooke and Emily Garrett; along with several great-nephews and nieces, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greater YMCA of Waco, TX in Stan's memory. He loved playing racquetball there with his friends almost daily. https://ymcactx.org/donate/. (Copy and paste the address in your web browser to donate.
