Stephen Robert (Mayf) Mayfield passed away on December 23, 2024, in Temple, Texas. Born on September 23, 1962, in Dallas, Texas, Stephen was a vibrant spirit whose presence brought joy to everyone he met.
After graduating high school, he pursued higher education at Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree that laid the foundation for a diverse and fulfilling career. Stephen had numerous jobs after college, ultimately finding his purpose within the Department of Defense, where he was employed at the time of his passing.
Stephen was not only devoted to his work; he was also known for his warm personality and exceptional ability to bring people together. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, making a lasting impact on family and friends alike. He cherished his free time, which he spent indulging in his many hobbies and interests. An avid fisherman, Stephen found tranquility and enjoyment in the water. He loved skiing—of all kinds—as well as football and NASCAR, passionately supporting his favorite sports teams and events.
Stephen is survived by his devoted wife, BJ Mayfield; stepson, Byron Sparks; sister, Michelle Mayfield Gentzen of Tulsa, OK; and his cherished grandchildren, Logan, Matthew, Cody, Breanna, and Katie; mother-in-law, Lousie Strain of Granbury, TX.sisters-in-law, Bonnie Harris and husband Steve of Granbury, TX, Terrie Moore and family of New Washington, IN. and, Julie Dubois and family of Saginaw, TX. He will also be deeply missed by his cousins and friends, who knew him as someone who brought light and laughter into their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dolores Mayfield his brother-in-law, Jerry Gentzen, and sister-in-law, Lynn Gilland. Stephen Mayfield leaves behind a legacy of love, camaraderie, and fond memories that will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to know him. His spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of his loved ones.
A Celebration of Life gathering at Lake Whitney is planned for later this spring.
