Sunshine Spicer

August 13, 1920 — June 10, 2019

Sunshine Elizabeth Spicer, age 98, of Killeen, Texas, died on June 10, 2019, at the Sunset Home, a loving and caring assisted living facility in Clifton, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Clifton Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Killeen City Cemetery in Killeen.

From her birth in Subiaco, Arkansas on August 13, 1920, to her death she nourished people around her with love. Her life’s passion was caring for her family.

She was born on a forty acre watermelon farm to Arthur and Iva Trusty. Sunshine was the fifth of six children. They family home was purchased as a kit from Sears, Roebuck & Co. for $900. A heartbreak was the death of her mother when she was two. Several years later the family received a new loving and caring mother, Ola Trusty.

At a young age while attending the local Assembly of God church, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.

Cecil Norman Spicer and Sunshine Elizabeth were married on March 27, 1948. This loving couple was blessed with two children, Terrance Norman Spicer and Julia Beth Spicer Allen. Cecil Norman was a barber. The family moved to Killeen, Texas for him to cut hair in 1952. The plan was to return to Arkansas which never happened. Sadness struck Sunshine again as Norman passed at age 52 in 1971 which left her as a widow at age 49.

Sunshine never did work outside of the home, but why would she do so, when she now had grandchildren and a loving heart that could go to the next generation. She now went from the role of Mother to Granny. She loved teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to play dominoes and would continue to play with them until recently.

In Sunshine’s eyes a perfect mother would wash clothes, keep the house perfect, and be an outstanding cook to the family. Words cannot describe her passion as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Sunshine made homemade biscuits, cinnamon rolls, fried chicken with gravy, chicken and dumplings, and any homemade dessert with the best being chocolate pie. The perfect cook who never used a recipe. She always was concerned that you had enough to eat; therefore, she would always cook an abundance of food.

Proverbs 31:10
Who can find a wife of noble character? She is far more valuable than rubies.

Left to cherish her memories are son, Terry Spicer and wife, Debbie from Clifton, Texas; daughter, Julia Allen and husband, Steve from Killeen, Texas; grandchildren, Brad Spicer and wife, Jennifer of Lubbock, Texas, Tracy Sexton and husband, Michael from Valley Mills, Texas, Steve Allen from Harker Heights, Texas, and Ashley Tibbetts and husband, Josh from Belton, Texas; great-grandchildren, Ella Spicer, Mason and McKenzie Sexton, Megan and Julianna Allen, and Addison and Britten Tibbetts; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Spicer, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
