Velma L. Meyer

Velma L. Meyer, 92, of Clifton passed away March 6, 2016 at Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. Brian McQuiggin officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial at Clifton Cemetery.

Born January 7, 1924 in Bosque County, Velma was the daughter of Charlie and Ella Mae (Kettler) Schmidt. On January 16, 1943, She was united in marriage to Woodrow Meyer. They had two daughters, Charlene and Darlene.

Velma worked in her parents restaurant, Charlie's Café, for 30-plus years. She worked in the office at Wall's Mfg. in Clifton, and at the Wall's Mfg. Outlet Store in Cleburne for several years. In addition, she owned and managed a dress shop, and completed her career as a Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio owner in Clifton.

Velma was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, and served as past president of the LWML. Her church family was an important part of her life and she cherished the time spent with the members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Meyer; parents, Charlie and Ella Mae Schmidt; brother, Carl Schmidt.

Survivors include her daughters, Charlene Roberts and husband Lee of Arlington, TX, Darlene Spitzer of Tomball, TX; grandchildren, Mark Willenborg of Austin, TX, Michael Willenborg and wife Kae of Highland Village, TX, Breana Via and husband Jeff of Grain Valley, Missouri, Trey Arnold and wife Heather of Tomball, TX; and eleven great-grandchildren.
