Vernon Amundson

Vernon William Amundson, 82, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Born on May 16, 1942, in Meridian, TX, he was a devoted husband to Key Amundson and a loving father to Cindy Perrin, Kim Allen, Michael Harrell, Brett Amundson, and Camille Hooper. 

Vernon graduated from Cranfills Gap High School in 1960. He worked at Texas Instruments before becoming a firefighter in 1972. He worked for Dallas Fire Department for 25 years. Not only was he hard-working and dedicated in his career but also devoted to his church. He previously served as a deacon and would volunteer throughout the church helping out wherever and whenever he could. 

Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, watching sports, traveling with his family, and playing golf. After playing golf for many years, he also spent several years building golf clubs for family and friends. One of his greatest joys was being “Papa” to all his grandkids and great-grandkids. 

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, William and Vergie Amundson, his sister, Wilma Meissner, his son, Michael Harrell, and his daughter, Kim Allen. 

He is survived by his wife, Key; sister, Sue Viertel and husband, Bob; daughter, Cindy Perrin and husband, Scott; son, Brett Amundson and wife, Kim; daughter, Camille Hooper and husband, Kevin; granddaughters, Brandi Washington, Tiffany English, Kaitlyn Amundson, Kourtney Amundson, Lexi Harrell, Sophia Harrell, Grace Harrell; grandsons, Brody Amundson and Michael Hooper; as well as numerous great-granddaughters, great-grandsons, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse. Burial will follow at Norse Cemetery. The family invites attendees to the fellowship hall for visitation after the burial.
