Wayne Lee Montgomery, of Cranfills Gap, passed away on July 26, 2024, in Clifton, Texas, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Wayne was born on June 22, 1939, in Del Rio, Texas, to John Robin Lee and Viola Snowden Montgomery.

He joined the Army in the summer of 1958, thanks to his friend James Miller. All Wayne had to do was sign his name. They were in Houston the next day and then on to Germany.

After returning home, he married in 1965 and married again in 1970. From these two unions, he welcomed 5 children.

In 1975, Wayne moved the family to Garden City, Texas, where he drove an oil transport truck for many years.

He enjoyed all school sports and even coached little league baseball during the summers.

Wayne was a brick mason and built many fireplaces throughout the town. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed woodworking, attending to his yard, and playing pool and he was a huge Houston Astros fan.

His best friends were his dogs, first Macie and currently Molly. Wayne played pool every Wednesday night at the Horny Toad in Cranfills Gap, Texas, with Molly in the truck. Wherever Wayne was, Molly was, to the very end.

Wayne is survived by his children; sons, Tommy and wife Debra, of Big Spring, J.J. and wife Laura of IRA, David of Kerrville, daughter Lisa and husband Joel Sellers, of Cranfills Gap. Special nephew, Billy Goetz and wife Carolyn of Mereta, and daughter Kathryn of Houston. 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Survived by his sisters, Beth George of Carlsbad, Carolyn McDonald of Midland and his brother Buzzy Singleton of Snyder, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Marilyn Goetz of San Angelo, Carrie Wheeler of Carlsbad, and great nephews, Kevin Goetz and Jason Neeley.
